To whom it may concern,
I was pleased to learn of your open RN position and would greatly
appreciate a chance to be a member of your team. My experience is limited,
but I would like to be trained to fit your needs. I started my nursing
career at Allegany College of Maryland in their Fast Track nursing program
and graduated in December of 2012. I then passed the Maryland state boards
in February 2013 and I am currently enjoying Frostburg State University's
online RN to BSN program.
I am eager to begin the life-long learning that is nursing and feel that
your practice is a great place to expand my knowledge base. I have not yet
found an area of nursing that I do not enjoy. My time at University of
Maryland opened my eyes to the cultural diversity that Maryland has to
offer and I am excited about further developing my cultural competency in a
more urban area.
One of my strongest attributes is my ability to work as a member of a team
and thrive in an environment where employees act as a well-oiled machine
and help each other out. I have a knack for bringing out the best in
people and putting them at ease. This has come in handy thus far in my
nursing career.
I have worked in public service for eight years and I feel extremely
comfortable speaking with the public on a regular basis. My previous
employers and instructors can tell you, I am very personable and get along
with just about anyone.
I am interested to discuss with you how my goals may align with the needs
of your organization and look forward to speaking with you further about
this position. Attached is my resume and references. Thank you for your
time!
Sincerely,
Abby Sherrard

Objective:
* To obtain an RN position to suit your needs.
Education:
* Frostburg State University - RN to BSN Program-January 2013 to present
* Allegany College of Maryland - Registered Nurse - Graduated December
14, 2012
* University of Maryland - Pre-nursing undergraduate work from Fall 2008
to Fall 2010
* Northern Garrett High School - Class of 2008 Diploma. I graduated 5th
in my class with a 3.8 GPA and was involved in numerous activities
including soccer, mock trial, softball, and editor of the school
newspaper.
Health Care Experience:
* Camp counselor and nurse - 2005 to 2013 As a camp counselor I became
very experienced in dealing with children ages 8-16. Kids camps always
have their fair share of minor injuries as well as emotional problems.
I am confident in my ability to think quickly on my feet and have
trusting relationships with youth. In July of 2013 I served as the
nurse for Garrett County's 4-H Summer Youth Camp.
* Variety of clinical experience - 2011 to 2012 My clinical rotations
during school were a very rewarding experience. My strengths were
maintaining a calm attitude in stressful situations, building strong
therapeutic relationships with my patients, and keeping busy by
helping anyone in need. I chose to do my final preceptor rotation on
the cardiac floor of Western Maryland Medical Center where I really
enjoyed my work with the patients and the unit's staff. I benefitted
greatly from the chance to expand my cardiac knowledge base.
Work Experience:
* Firefly Farms: Artisanal Goat Cheese Creamery - Counter attendant
during summers May 2004 to Dec. 2012. I greeted customers as they
arrived, told them about the business, answered any questions they
had, and managed the register. This job was great for perfecting my
people skills. I felt confident in speaking with anyone who came in.
* Will O' the Wisp Resort - Wait staff from May 2005-May 2012 and
Bartender/Assistant manager May 2012 to Dec. 2012. I worked my way up
from being a busser to being an Assistant Manager over the years. I
was responsible for opening the restaurant, dealing with any problems
that came about during the shift, managed the register, divvied up
tips at the end of the night, and closed the restaurant. I took these
responsibilities seriously and strived for happy customers and
employees.
* Ledo's Pizza - Wait staff from May 2011- Present. I am responsible for
caring for a section of customers during hours of operation. My
problem solving and people skills serve me well in the food industry.
* University of Maryland Extension - Office assistant while attending
UMD from August 2008 to December 2010. I was responsible for
organizing spreadsheets, coordinating mass mailings, proofreading
correspondence, making copies, designing handouts, as well as other
office related tasks.

* CPR certified by American Heart Association - 8/22/2011
* IV Therapy for Allied Health Professionals completed - 3/24/2012
* TIPS (alcohol safety) certified - 6/10/2012
