Author of Open Source Analysis Project (OSAP) research paper for the U.S. Army entitled “ Biometric
Technologies in Nigeria: Uses and Challenges .” The research work was sponsored by National
Security Education Program (NSEP). My paper examined the following: what types of biometric
technology are in use and which sectors use biometric technology; what supporting infrastructures
lack in the implementation of biometrics; and what cultural biases such as group dynamics,
influences or behaviors impede biometric technology usage. My research focus was on how
Nigerian public, private, and nongovernmental organization entities are implementing biometric
technologies including fingerprint scans, iris scans, digital signature, and facial recognition
techniques in a wide variety of sectors. However, it further explains how both infrastructural and
cultural challenges can limit biometrics implementation and effectiveness. A summary of findings was
presented at the English for Heritage Language Speakers OSAP Symposium at Georgetown
University, June 19-20, 2013.
