Objective I am seeking an AS/400 Systems Administrator position

Work Experience

Information Technology Manager

5/1994 – 5/2009 Village of Hanover Park, Hanover Park, Illinois

As Information Technology Manager for the Village of Hanover Park, I was responsible for the Computer Operations for the Village, as well as the Police and Fire Departments. This included operations of the current infrastructure, as well as planning for and budgeting for the future. I purchased and installed all computer equipment as well as maintained the operations. The Village has an iSeries computer that runs Sungard H.T.E. software for ERP, as well as New World Software for the Police Department. The Fire Department runs Firehouse software on a Windows 2008 file server with an SQL database. The email is Lotus Domino, run on a separate logical partition on the iSeries computer. BRMS software is used for tape backup. A SAN was recently installed with redundancy over a fiber optic cable installed between the Village Hall and the Fire Station. I supervised the activities of the one other Information Department employee.

Systems Engineer

7/1991 - 5/1994 Systems Engineering and Analysis Group, Springfield, Illinois

I was the main consultant for the AS400 computer for S.E.A.G., an IBM Business Partner Consulting Company. My territory was Illinois north of I80. My duties included installation of new iSeries systems, training of customers on iSeries operations and software, and support of existing customers for any computer services needed. I won the Employee of the Year Award for 1993 and received a large cash bonus.

Technical Support

7/1988 - 7/1991 Allied American Insurance Company, Park Ridge, Illinois

When I was hired, Allied American was a 7 million dollar a year company running on a system 36. I was responsible for purchasing a new AS400 and converting and updating all insurance programs from the System 36 to the AS400. The conversion went so smoothly I won the Employee of the Month Award, and was given a 35% salary increase. In the 3 years I was at Allied American, sales increased to 75 million a year. I was solely responsible for purchasing and supporting all computer hardware. I also implemented a Document Management System that greatly streamlined application processing.

Programmer

4/1987 - 7/1988 Borg Warner, Des Plaines, Illinois

I was a Cobol Programmer on an IBM Mainframe computer used by corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago that was housed at a research facility in Des Plaines. I was responsible for updating and writing new programs requested by corporate users. At this time, Borg Warner was a fortune 100 company (It is much smaller now). The only reason I left was due to a "white knight" takeover that allowed management to remain in place, but resulted in large amounts of layoffs and closings of various plants. The research center that I worked in was closed due to downsizing.

Programmer

9/1983 - 4/1987 American Foundrymen's Society, Des Plaines, Illinois

I was a computer programmer for a non-profit organization that published a monthly magazine (Modern Casting), did research, and provided training for Foundry employees. I started out programming in COBOL and FORTRAN on a Honeywell Mainframe computer. The mainframe was eventually replaced by an IBM System 36 computer, and all programs were then rewritten in RPG.

Education

9/1980 - 8/1983 University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee

Bachelor's Degree

Major in Computer Science, Minor in Mathematics
