PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

NETWORK ENGINEER II (i3Tech) 03/2011 – Present

I currently provide superior network support to the Marine Corps Combat Operations Center (COC). Advanced hierarchical, high availability network architectures are implemented in these systems. These implementations include optimized routing tables, port channels and redundant links. Security is also employed to ensure data integrity; some methods include AAA, VLAN maps, Access lists and many other Cisco best practices. I have also performed research and development on new technologies that could potentially be implemented into the COC. These include: different virtualization strategies; innovative storage solutions; and modern communication equipment such as the Cisco Cius and Cisco UCS(Unified Computing and Servers). Network monitoring is also conducted using Wireshare and NetBrain.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER (Knowbiz Inc.) 09/2010– 03/2011

I was given the opportunity to work on the Marine Corps Java/MySQL application Marine Link 2.3.123. With the programming experience received from formal education, I was able to adapt and perform to companies standards. Weekly updates were submitted and merged into our main content management system. Within a few months one other individual and I corrected many bugs in the code and added new features and functionality to bring the version up to 2.3.196. This was the first time in 2 years that an updated version was created and releasable to support the Marines efforts in Afghanistan.

NETWORK ENGINEER (Qinetiq North America) 2009 – 09/2010

After almost 3 years of training I was promoted to a Network Engineer. This position dealt heavily with the 3560/3750/3745/3845 network equipment, VMware, storage solutions and Server 2003/2008. Research and development was also done in order to provide a virtual solution for the Combat Operations Center (COC).

TECHNICAL TRAINING SPECIALIST II (Qinetiq North America) 07/2007 – 2009

Holding the position of a Network trainer for 3 years, repetition of design and proper procedures has become second nature. Along with Troubleshooting student’s errors, field experience allowed me to gain an extensive amount of knowledge on a range of network difficulties commonly experienced. With these insightful skills I was able to provide superior IT support to hundreds of clients both civilian and military worldwide. Managers observed this level of skill achieved and requested I be pulled aside to assist in the design of network architectures for much larger systems (COC CAPSET II). This network design followed Cisco’s best practice for a hierarchical design with a Core, Distribution and Access layer. Along with the design came documentation and course ware development as well.

WEB DEVELOPMENT & SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION (Marine Corps, Sergeant) 2002 – 2007

As a system administrator I was the jack of all trades. Whatever needed to be done I was the go to man. Active directory accounts, no problem, troubleshooting dropped calls in our VoIP network, piece of cake. Given the task to create a web based application to track insurgent movements, current activities, and give visibility of their capture and prosecution for the entire Anbar Province of Iraq with limited programming knowledge and a three month deadline; now that was a little more challenging. This was a task I accomplished saving the Marine Corps over $100,000 in contracting expenses and earning myself the Navy Commendation medal. Did I mention I was a fast learner?
