Gatesway Foundation empowers adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live, work, and thrive. We believe every adult with I/DD deserves a life of dignity, purpose, and belonging in the community they call home.

Our story began in 1963, when Helen Gates was told her 20-year-old son, Ronnie, who had Down syndrome, would have to move to a state institution or nursing facility. Helen believed people of every ability belonged in the community. She rented a farmhouse where Ronnie and five friends could live and grow the "Gates way," supported by families and volunteers at a time when no public funding existed. More than 60 years later, that same belief guides everything we do.

Today, Gatesway is one of the largest providers of intermediate care services for adults with I/DD in Northeastern Oklahoma. We support the people we serve, whom we call our Friends, through:

Safe, supportive housing: on-campus cottages, group homes, and companion housing with 24/7 care and personalized plans focused on independence
Meaningful employment: job coaching, vocational training, community-integrated employment, and on-site work through Empower Business Services
Family and caregiver resources: guidance navigating Medicaid, DDS, SoonerCare, and other programs
