Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit providing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the 18 northwestern most counties of Kansas. Services are available through community-based and outreach programs, and interagency agreements with other service providers.
The strategic direction developed by DSNWK during its strategic planning process aims to ensure that the best possible environment exists for individuals served in the communities of northwest Kansas. The goals and priorities identified in this plan are intended to give direction to current and future Board and staff members.
DSNWK offers support to meet the needs of individuals who experience lifelong mental or physical challenges that are diagnosed before the age of 22. Support includes instruction in and help with self-care, skill building, communication, mobility, and employment so individuals can live and be active in their communities.
Programs and Services:
ACCESS public transportation provides transportation within the community of Hays, allowing affordable transportation throughout the community.
College for Living provides structural learning opportunities for individuals on life skills and subjects that interest them.
Creative Living provides residential support designed to match service and housing needs to help individuals live successfully in their communities.
Custom Creations provides individuals with disabilities across all 18 counties of DSNWK's service area the opportunity to create, contribute to, and participate in an array of projects for the Custom Creations store.
Employment Connections provides support to individuals by helping them uncover their employment interests, develop their skills for success, match their skills with employer needs and support the individual in the workplace to achieve meaningful and sustained employment.
Fam-Link nurtures and supports families to improve outcomes for children in northwest Kansas by using Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up (ABC) intervention to help families develop critical skills leading to better outcomes for children and thus, family preservation.
Health Services provides health related support to help individuals remain healthy and independent as possible in their communities. DSNWK has Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses available for consultation 24/7, and the nurses provide wellness monitoring to those who qualify.
Kid-link provides early intervention services to children ages birth to three who have a diagnosed disability, are delayed in two or more areas, or are at risk of a developmental delay.
Service Coordination, also known as case management, provides support to individuals and families in planning and navigating their lives in the community based on their unique desires and goals. These services can start at the age of 5 when the child becomes eligible for in-home personal assistant care. Through the child's case manager, extra assistance is available to help with Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, as requested.
