JOB SUMMARY:

The accountant/senior accountant will participate in the accounting, consolidation, and reporting of NewMarket Corporation’s global operations and will have responsibility for assigned accounting areas, which will include certain of the following: stock-based compensation, retirement plan accounting, segment reporting, legal/environmental analysis, identifiable intangible assets and goodwill, common stock/EPS, debt-related processes, and corporate accounting processes. In addition, the accountant/senior accountant will participate in preparation and filing of our SEC forms, as well as special projects, which could include the implementation of new accounting rules, regulations, and standards of the SEC and FASB, acquisitions/dispositions, software implementation, and other projects, as needed.

Responsibilities

Prepare assigned sections of the consolidated financial statements and detailed footnotes in accordance with SEC and FASB disclosure requirements, including obtaining and analyzing appropriate supporting data to complete

Complete XBRL tagging and review of SEC filings

Participate in filing the financial statements (10-Q, 10-K, 11-K) and earnings releases (8K) with the SEC

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual processes to close the books for NewMarket Corporation and multiple corporate subsidiaries

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual processes to include analysis and reconciliation of assigned areas to ensure compliance with internal controls for assigned processes

Design and prepare reports to meet various internal and external requirements

Prepare and submit required government (non-SEC) reports

Respond to internal and external questions

Interact with external auditors, addressing questions, as needed

Complete special projects as assigned

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of US GAAP

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEC requirements

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

BS Degree in Accounting

Licensed CPA OR CPA Candidate

3 – 8 years relevant work experience

Experience with an ERP software accounting system and Microsoft Office software

Desired Qualifications

Experience in a public accounting firm

Experience with SAP ERP software

Experience with XBRL

Experience with Workiva software

Experience with accounting for a manufacturing entity

Experience with accounting for a multinational organization

Desired Skills and Abilities

An in-depth understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting and disclosure requirements

Able to analyze, understand, and apply accounting standards

Able to perform work accurately and thoroughly using sound judgment to make appropriate decisions based on available data
