Employment Opportunity

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics, Recreation Coordinator of Aquatics, and Pool Manager, a Swim Instructor is responsible providing group and private swim lessons and water safety instruction to infants, children and adults following the curriculum set forth by the City of Hilliard., and are Responsible for the guidance, safety, and welfare of the people in their class from the time children leave their caregiver to the time they are returned to the caregiver.

Essential Functions of Work

(May not include all duties performed.)

Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational water safety classes to the curriculum standard.

Serves as the main point of contact for swim lesson operations while on site at aquatics facilities; communicates with participants and guardians regarding class sessions.

Leads with onsite supervision and communication; assists with scheduling, training and evaluating swim lesson program.

Describes and accurately demonstrates new skills as they are taught.

Attends all required pre- and in-service training assigned covering a variety of topics.

Leads and maintains the promotion of excellent customer service standards at all levels of operations

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public

Maintains the inventory of supplies and equipment in connection with the operation of the pool; assists Recreation Supervisor and co-workers in duties necessary for the proper upkeep and maintenance of the pool and pool grounds.

Maintains all necessary documentation for business, operations, program and staffing under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator.

Teaches appropriate skills and techniques based on age and level using well-designed lessons and block plans; prepares and maintains records and reports.

Evaluates students programs and services and makes recommendations on the modification of existing programs

Maintain high standards of health and safety in all aquatics operations, always adhering to industry standards.

Maintains the facility in a clean and orderly fashion.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of water safety and emergency procedures.

Knowledge of CPR, AED, and first-aid techniques.

Ability to apply first-aid, ability to administer CPR.

Ability to maintain surveillance over class participants.

Ability to lead a class of participants, ages ranging from 6 months to 99 years.

Ability to exercise independent judgement, discretion, and to enforce rules and regulations to the public.

Ability to answer inquiries, resolve complaints, and communicate with the public in an effective, tactful courteous, and professional manner.

Ability to implement Emergency Action Plans and emergency response plans.

Compliance with training directives established by supervisory and management personnel.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

15 years of age or older.

One year of college preferred.

Possession of a valid State of Ohio Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

A background free of prior felony convictions.

Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this position.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Full-Time availability preferred.

Swim Instructors are required to complete in-service training for the current season for which they are hired to maintain their skills.

WELL MEMBERSHIP

Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in the employee Well membership program. This program allows employees to receive an individual Well membership if they meet the program's quarterly goal.

RETIREMENT PENSION

The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Retirement System (OPERS) and the employee contributes 10%.

PERSONAL LEAVE

Part-time employees who have worked for a minimum of 1,000 hours during the prior calendar year for the City, shall be eligible for forty (40) hours of paid personal leave each year. Part-time employees who have worked less than 1,000 hours but more than 500 hours in the previous calendar year for the City shall be eligible for twenty-four (24) hours of paid personal leave each year.
