Job Description
A Front of House (FOH) manager is responsible for overseeing the customer-facing side of a restaurant. They lead and manage all FOH staff to ensure an excellent guest experience and efficient daily operations.
Typical work environment
The FOH manager works full-time, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The environment is often fast-paced and can be demanding, requiring the manager to be consistently present on the floor during service hours to supervise staff and engage with guests.
Duties and responsibilities
Staff management
Recruit, interview, hire, and train new FOH staff, including hosts, servers, and bartenders.
Create and organize staff schedules and monitor labor costs.
Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback to improve productivity and quality of service.
Promote a positive and motivating work environment and handle any staff-related issues or conflicts.
Customer service and guest experience
Ensure that all guests receive exceptional customer service from the moment they arrive.
Actively engage with guests to ensure satisfaction and address any complaints or issues promptly and professionally.
Manage reservations, seating, and special requests to ensure a smooth flow of service.
Maintain a welcoming and high-standard atmosphere in the dining room and other FOH areas.
Operational duties
Oversee daily FOH operations, including opening and closing procedures.
Coordinate with the Back of House (BOH) or kitchen manager to facilitate smooth communication and service.
Manage inventory for FOH items, such as beverages, glassware, and other supplies.
Handle cash transactions, balance cash drawers, and manage point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Required skills and qualifications
Experience
Proven work experience in a restaurant, hotel, or similar hospitality environment.
Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role is highly desirable.
Proficiency with restaurant management and POS software.
