Description:

Commissioning Engineer (Renewable Energy)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commissioning Engineer with a strong background in renewable energy projects to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the successful commissioning of utility-scale solar, wind, or battery energy storage systems, ensuring all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.

Job Summary:

The Commissioning Engineer will play a critical role in the final stages of renewable energy project development, from pre-commissioning checks through to full operational handover. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, control logic, safety protocols, and performance optimization within the renewable energy sector. The successful candidate will be a problem-solver, capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists for renewable energy projects (solar PV, wind, BESS).

Oversee and perform pre-commissioning tests, functional checks, and system integration testing of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

Verify proper installation and functionality of all components, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, SCADA systems, and communication networks.

Collaborate closely with project managers, construction teams, engineering departments, and clients to ensure smooth project execution and timely completion.

Identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues and deficiencies during the commissioning phase, coordinating with relevant stakeholders for effective solutions.

Conduct performance testing and optimization to ensure systems meet contractual obligations and energy production targets.

Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to strict safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.

Prepare detailed commissioning reports, punch lists, and final handover documentation, including as-built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals.

Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.

Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on constructability and maintainability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related technical field.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commissioning utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and/or BESS).

Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE), and safety regulations relevant to high-voltage systems.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control logic diagrams.

Experience with SCADA systems, PLC programming, and various communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, etc.).

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and control system issues.

Familiarity with power quality analysis and grid interconnection requirements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Willingness to travel frequently to project sites, sometimes for extended periods.

Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.

Experience with specific inverter brands (e.g., SMA, Sungrow, GE, Siemens Gamesa) or battery technologies (e.g., Fluence, Tesla).

Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
