Strategic Legal Practices has a great opportunity for a multi-faceted self-starting Software Data Engineer who wants to help share the way that an influential law firm engages with data engineering. As a Data Engineer with SLP, you will hit the ground running in order to build new data pipelines and analytic solutions across the firm. Our ideal candidate is passionate about groundbreaking technology, enjoys creativity, and has strong written and verbal communication skills.
This role would suit an ambitious Data Engineer coming from a background of either working in a fast growth scale up company, or someone who has worked within a large organization who has an appetite for taking on more responsibility and autonomy while leading a team.
This individual must have a background in: data integration, be able to execute API feeds, create development pipelines between software systems & data warehouses, have a background in big data analysis. Python code proficiency is a must.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work with business analysts and data engineers to enable self-service analysis for data analysts within business teams.
• Leverage your data engineering skills to impact our business by taking ownership of key projects requiring coding and data pipelines.
• Provide operational & production support for the self-service ad-hoc analytics.
• Implementing processes to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key partners and business processes that depend on it.
• Diagnose and debug issues in development, staging and production environments.
• Operational support including issues investigation and remediation.
• Support and maintenance of existing platform management code base and tooling, including Python, Java SQL, Ansible (or similar) and Cloudformation (or similar).
Qualifications:
• Ability to architect, set up, administer and scale data pipelines and build integration through external/third-party APIs.
• Experience ingestion of data from internal and third-party sources and familiarity with data design principles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to discuss the product and with executives and business owners.
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with ability to identify and call out issues as appropriate.
• Experience of successfully building, optimizing and validating models (e.g. linear models, time-series methods; ML algorithms, Classifiers, etc).
• Understanding principles of ITIL and maintaining provision of products and services to consumers. Can work with ticketing system.
Preferred Education and Experience:
• B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a similar quantitative field
• 3+ years of related experience required; • Deep knowledge in various ETL/ELT tools and concepts, data modeling, SQL, query performance optimization; • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
• Knowledge of cloud big data services and technologies
• More advanced ML algorithms such as Bayesian & Hierarchical Modelling and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is desirable
• Python libraries such as Scikit-Learn and PyStan
• Version control software such as Git
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
