Under minimal supervision, assists in providing care for laboratory animals in a humane, safe, and sanitary manner using appropriate equipment and established procedures.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 20 hours of work per week inclusive of some 2-hour Saturday and/ or 2-hour Sunday workdays required.
Essential Duties Summary * Learn proper techniques and skills required to provide care for laboratory animals through classes and hands on training.
* Learn and assist in animal census and other required documentation.
* Observe animals for changes in status and notifies supervisor or attending veterinarian as appropriate.
* Create cage cards.
* Change cage bedding and enrichment, and provide food, water, and health checks on the animals.
* Order supplies.
* Autoclave equipment.
* Supervise student workers.
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
% FTE .5 Hiring Range $15.50-$19.76 Education High School diploma or G.E.D.
or equivalent education.
Preferred: Fifteen or more college credit hours of Biological and or Animal Sciences.
Required Licensing/Certification None Required.
