Location/Department: Medical Arts Center - Batesville

Job Summary:

The team member in this position must excel while functioning in a high public contact, respectful & professional manner with patients, staff & providers; successfully operate within the position established chain of command; consistently observe & adhere to the clinic hour of operation; be flexible & supportive of the clinics work demand, trends & changes. The Referral Coordinator serves all clinic departments & must navigate, compromise & negotiate successful tracking & coordination of referrals; it requires highly technical clerical tasks, specific to an area of work, at the expert level. The work includes responsibility for the preparation of specialized departmental documents; significant interpersonal staff & public contact, appropriate & professional conduct & professional attire, independent judgement, discretion & personal initiative; resolution of difficult & complex problems; planning, development & coordination of a wide range of clerical support programs; & use of computer systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

Ensure current and standardized referral guidelines and workflows are being met.

Prioritizes referrals by their urgency and addresses them in a timely

Ensures complete demographic, insurance information and appropriate/pertaining clinical information is sent to referred specialists.

Contacts internal and external areas to ensure proper workflows and all information is present for a complete referral. Presents necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis to referral locations if deemed necessary to prove medical necessity of services.

Reviews details and expectations about the referral with ordering provider and or team.

Requests for new referrals to be ordered when applicable.

Identifies and utilizes community resources; establishes relationships with servicing providers and

Point of contact for any departments or facility specialists regarding any questions or rising concerns. Assist in problem solving any issues/concerns that might arise. If unable to help, assist in finding the right point of contact to further help.

Participates in the selection, orientation and training of referral personnel

Required Skills/Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of computer information (software and/or hardware), spreadsheets, database & desktop publishing; business correspondence format & style; business terminology; computer operating system commands, departmental policies & procedures.

Considerable knowledge of medical, legal, or other specialized terminology; working knowledge of county policies, relevant state & federal laws.

Strong customer service skills; effectively communicates both verbal and written
