Job Description
Paving Superintendent
Location: Columbia, SC
We’re working with a heavy civil contractor in Columbia that’s looking to bring on an experienced Paving Superintendent. This is not a role for someone new to the game. They need a seasoned field leader who’s managed major roadway jobs and knows how to keep crews productive, safe, and on schedule.
Why the role is open:
They’ve secured several large paving contracts across the region, mostly tied to DOT and municipal roadway projects. With more boots on the ground, they’re building out their field leadership team to stay ahead of the curve.
What the day-to-day looks like:
You’ll be overseeing paving operations on active roadway jobs, handling everything from crew setup and equipment coordination to truck scheduling, safety walks, and quality control. You’ll work closely with the Project Manager, Milling Foreman, and QC team to make sure things run smoothly and nothing slips through the cracks.
You’ll also be expected to lead from the front. If a roller breaks down, if traffic control isn’t tight, or if the trucks are backed up, you’re the one calling the shots and getting things back on track.
What they’re looking for:
Proven experience running paving crews on major roadway or DOT projects
Strong understanding of equipment, materials, production rates, and traffic control
Solid communication with crews, inspectors, subcontractors, and project managers
A leader who takes ownership and earns respect through action, not just a title
Comfortable working under pressure and adapting when the unexpected happens
What they offer:
Competitive salary based on experience
Company truck or allowance
Full health benefits
Paid time off and paid holidays
Steady pipeline of work with respected clients
A company that trusts its supers and gives them the tools they need
This is a solid opportunity for a superintendent who knows how to take control of paving operations and deliver high-quality work on tough projects. If that’s you, let’s have a conversation.
