DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.
Ability to read, understand and create a civil engineering drawing package associated with the physical layout of a substation, specific to the creation of foundation and structure designs.
Create civil-structural project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects
Perform calculations for various foundation types including drilled piers, spread footers, and transformer pads
Design and procure transformer oil containment systems
Analyze new and existing steel (or wood) structures using modeling software
Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters
Collaborate with senior civil engineers to create best practices, quality assurance, and processes and procedures.
Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients
Visit sites, advise on civil and structural engineering issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction
Provide general project management capabilities to coordinate staff, assign tasks, and accomplish projects in an efficient manner
Assist the Project Manager in the preparation and review of proposals and contracts for the civil-structural scope
Support design needs for permitting activities
Manage budgets and project schedules
Think both creatively and logically to resolve design and construction issues
Experience working in a field or construction environment implementing or verifying engineering drawings.
Experience in the electric utility industry.
EDUCATION
Required A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Civil Engineering.
Required Engineering Degree awarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET.
Experience
5-7 Year(s) Experience as an Engineer with the electrical industry in the field of power delivery.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to be licensed within a year.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
A. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret spread sheets.
B. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
