Design Engineer

Job Purpose:

Responsible for designing and developing new medical devices

Duties:

Create unique CAD designs capable of being scaled for commercial production

Solve problems and think creatively

Lead concept brainstorming meetings

Interview product users and consider human factors in design

Develop and define product and customer requirements

Investigate, evaluate and select product materials

Prepare detailed component and assembly drawings

Work with component and assembly vendors to ensure design can be efficiently manufactured

Evaluate tolerancing of component features and fitments of mating components

Create photorealistic 3-D renderings of product concepts

Prepare presentations with detailed explanations of design concepts

Conceptualize equipment and processes related to device assembly

Develop assembly methods and oversee prototype device builds

Generate CAD models for test or assembly fixtures

Participate in device testing and analysis of results to drive design iteration

Assist in the development and execution of design verification and validation protocols

Lead investigation of device failures to determine root cause and corrective action

Lead product risk assessments and design reviews

Communicate effectively with customers and vendors in a technical capacity

Lead project activities through the management of budgets, resources, timelines, and deliverables

Provide primary interface to customer for communication of project status and plans

Skills/Qualifications:

Bachelors in Engineering, 4 year technical degree or applicable experience

0 - 6 years relevant experience, preferred

Experience in SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer and/or other 3D CAD modeling software

Experience with plastics and/or silicones, particularly injection molding, preferred

Knowledge of medical device regulations (FDA/ISO) a plus

Can work alone or in teams

Have a working knowledge of traditional and rapid prototyping processes
