Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer has technical responsibility for the assigned manufacturing processes and is responsible to develop, document and maintain optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes. (S)he will technically troubleshoot processes and investigate variances, and implement permanent corrective actions. (S)he will envision and implement continuous improvement of his/her processes. In addition, the Manufacturing Engineer will coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products and processes as well as capital equipment projects, and interface with internal and external customers as well as other Engineering staff as needed, at any of SPIROLs locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Have technical ownership of assigned processes: equipment, processes, procedures and troubleshooting.

2. Develop and maintain high quality, cost-effective manufacturing processes, which are well documented.

3. Actively investigate technical process and product variances and drive corrective actions to eliminate them.

4. Recommend and implement continuous improvements to surpass quality, cost and throughput goals.

5. Research, recommend, document, manage and qualify the purchase, installation and implementation of capital equipment projects.

6. Manage the manufacturing launch of new/revised products and processes; including establishing goals, developing processes and procedures, training team members and evaluating results.

7. Promote Safety, Environmental and Occupational Health compliance into processes and procedures.

8. Develop technical training material to educate employees to effectively execute the manufacturing process.

9. Plan and document projects and actions in the SPIROL Operations Database.

10. Represent manufacturing on various cross-functional teams.

11. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

AUTHORITY:

1. To shut down equipment that is not performing within capabilities.

2. To bring to Supervisors notice products which do not conform to specification.

3. The Manufacturing Engineer has the authority to stop shipment and stop production to correct quality problems, and identify their supervisor/manager immediately.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:

1. Continuous improvement and problem solving

2. Technical documentation development and training

3. Data analysis using MS Excel and/or Minitab

4. Effective communication skills to multiple levels of the organization.

5. Timely submissions of monthly activity reports.

6. Stay current with current technologies and trends.

7. Unexcused or unreported absenteeism not to exceed 2% of total hours worked.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. BSME (Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering) / HNC/HND (Europe) or significant equivalent experience with at least three years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

2. Proficiency in CAD as well as office automation software and systems.

3. The ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

4. A common sense approach to problem solving and setting priorities is essential.

5. Wonderlic 25+ with target of 28+

6. Bennett Mechanical 80%+ with target of 90%+
