A private highway construction company with multiple aggregate plants is seeking to hire a full-time Chief Estimator/Project Manager. We are a Southern California based general engineering contractor with operations consisting of primarily street and highway construction, and rock, sand, and gravel quarry operations with related hot mix asphalt facilities. The Chief Estimator/Project Manager is responsible for managing and directing the organization’s estimating functions and also directs all activities within the estimating department including budgeting, staff scheduling and development, and departmental goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Pursuit and procurement of competitive government and private bidding contracts.

Create estimates that assess all cost and risks, while maximizing profit, for future project consideration use.

Read and interpret plans, proposals, and other documentations to create bids.

Consult with outside sources and analyze documents to create time, cost, materials and labor estimates.

Obtain and track subcontract bids and negotiate budgets.

Track and analyze data to reduce gaps between estimates and actual costs.

Manage estimating department personnel.

Desired Experience:

5-7 years of relevant work experience in the construction industry.

Experience in management or supervisory positions is strongly preferred.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field.

Ability to pass a physical, drug test, and a background clearance exam.

Position requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Comfortable working long hours.

Occasional weekend work.

Valid driver’s license.

Comfortable to occasionally travel and stay out of town to attend pre-construction meetings within Southern California Counties.Company Description
