Position Overview:

As a Data Protection Backup Specialist (Level 2), you will play a key role in supporting and maintaining backup operations utilizing industry-leading platforms such as Commvault, EMC Networker, and IBM Spectrum Protect. Your responsibilities will include assisting with configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the integrity of critical data assets across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Configuration and Deployment:

Assist in the configuration and deployment of backup solutions, including Commvault, EMC Networker, and IBM Spectrum Protect, under the guidance of senior team members.

Collaborate with team members to implement backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies based on organizational requirements.

Monitoring and Maintenance:

Monitor daily backup jobs, alerts, and system logs to ensure successful data protection operations and identify any issues or anomalies.

Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates, patching, and optimization, to maintain the health and performance of backup infrastructure.

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

Respond to backup failures and incidents promptly, troubleshooting issues and implementing corrective actions to minimize data loss and downtime.

Escalate unresolved technical issues to senior team members or vendors for further investigation and resolution.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate documentation of backup configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for reference and knowledge sharing.

Generate regular reports on backup job status, success rates, and storage utilization to track performance and compliance metrics.

Training and Knowledge Transfer:

Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge of backup technologies, processes, and best practices.

Share expertise and provide assistance to junior team members and end-users on backup-related queries and issues.

Compliance and Security:

Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, industry standards, and internal security policies in backup operations.

Implement and enforce backup encryption, access controls, and other security measures to safeguard sensitive data.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

3+ years of experience in managing and supporting backup solutions, with expertise in Commvault, EMC Networker, and IBM Spectrum Protect.

Strong understanding of backup and recovery concepts, including tape libraries, disk storage, deduplication, and replication.

Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Perl for automation and customizations.

Experience with enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS), virtualization technologies (VMware/Hyper-V), and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).

Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze logs, debug issues, and identify performance bottlenecks.

Familiarity with ITIL framework and best practices for incident, problem, and change management.

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Certifications such as Commvault Certified Professional, EMC Proven Professional, or IBM Certified Deployment Professional are a plus.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions and customer satisfaction.
