JOB TITLE: Field Distribution Engineer

JOB TYPE: 12 Months Contract to Hire - W2 - onsite
DESCRIPTION:
> As a Field Distribution Engineer, you will work hand in hand with our client designing distribution customer projects across the state of New Mexico. Field Distribution Engineers will handle multiple projects, and work with the project engineers, designers, and project managers. This position will provide the opportunity to interface with utility customers, utility staff, contractors, and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders to provide field and site assessments necessary for designing customer interconnections.
> Responsible for preparation and development of distribution site assessment packages for both overhead and underground construction. The position requires use of your experience of overhead and underground construction methods, knowledge of distribution system equipment, basic distribution engineer concepts, and use of PowerClerk, ArcFM, and GIS information to complete site assessments.
> Work involves travelling daily to project sites, customer sites, customer homes, and customer businesses to evaluate and document existing distribution equipment configurations and customer connections. Documentation includes site photos, equipment photos, condition assessments, transformer and other equipment locations, secondary connections, primary connections, meter locations, access routes, and other information necessary for engineers to start design work. Work as a representative of the utility when interacting with their customers and stakeholders.
JOB DUTIES:
> Lead field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private electric utility systems.
> Fundamentals of electrical distribution engineering and construction.
> Fundamentals of land ownership, DOT right of ways, and environmental issues.
> Use of PowerClerk, ArcFM, and GIS tools.
> Ability to be in the field 80% of the time, and travel to multiple sites every day.
> Have excellent communication skills with the client and client’s customers.
> Compliance with safety policies and procedures related to OHSA, lone workers, and protective measures.
> Regularly meet and correspond with clients, stakeholders, and utility customers.
> Responsible for effective communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
> Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
> Minimum 3 years distribution experience
> Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
> Knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and distribution system equipment.
> Experience conducting distribution field inspections.
> Understanding of distribution power flow.
> Experience with various distribution design tools, as well as GIS to aide in design.
> Knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting.
> Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
> Capable of devising new, more efficient approaches to solving problems and processes.
> Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize work.
> Knowledge of utility telecommunications, distributed energy resource integration, and advanced distribution technologies is a plus.
> Experience with PowerClerk, ArcFM, GIS, and Maximo is strongly preferred.
