Duration: 8–12 weeks, with potential for extension

Work Arrangement: Remote

Experience Level: Senior UI/UX Designer

Project Overview

We are seeking an experienced UI/UX Designer on a contract basis to improve the user experience of an existing web-based business portal.

The designer will evaluate the current portal, identify usability challenges and friction points, and develop intuitive, user-centered designs that simplify key workflows. The goal is to make the portal easier to navigate, more efficient to use, and more consistent across devices while improving user satisfaction and task completion.

Key Responsibilities

1. UX Assessment and Discovery

Review the existing portal and evaluate its information architecture, navigation, page layouts, and core user journeys.

Identify usability issues, unnecessary steps, confusing interactions, and opportunities to reduce user friction.

Conduct stakeholder interviews and, where feasible, user interviews or usability testing.

Develop prioritized recommendations based on user impact, business value, and implementation complexity.

2. User Journey and Workflow Optimization

Analyze and improve critical workflows, including:

Product or service search and discovery.

Order placement, cart management, and checkout, where applicable.

Order history, tracking, and repeat ordering.

Account and organization management.

Invoice review and payment-related workflows, where applicable.

Develop user journey maps, workflow diagrams, and wireframes to demonstrate improved experiences.

3. UI Design and Prototyping

Create clean, intuitive, and visually consistent interfaces aligned with existing brand guidelines.

Develop low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity designs for prioritized pages and workflows.

Build interactive prototypes in Figma to demonstrate proposed user experiences.

Ensure responsive designs work effectively across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Apply accessibility and usability best practices.

4. Design System and Developer Handoff

Review existing UI components and design patterns, recommending improvements where appropriate.

Create or update reusable components, design specifications, and interaction guidelines.

Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible to implement.

Provide developer-ready Figma files, annotations, and acceptance criteria.

5. Validation and Iteration

Conduct usability testing on proposed designs and incorporate feedback.

Refine designs based on user feedback and technical constraints.

Recommend measurable UX success metrics, such as reduced task completion time, fewer user errors, improved navigation success, and increased self-service adoption.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of professional UI/UX or product design experience.

Demonstrated experience improving complex web portals, B2B e-commerce platforms, or enterprise applications.

Strong proficiency in Figma, including interactive prototyping and reusable component libraries.

Experience conducting UX audits, mapping user journeys, creating wireframes, and performing usability testing.

Strong understanding of information architecture, interaction design, responsive design, and accessibility principles.

Ability to translate business requirements and user feedback into practical, developer-ready designs.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing B2B portals or e-commerce platforms with product catalogs, ordering, account management, and payment workflows.

Familiarity with enterprise account management, role-based access, and multi-user business accounts.

Experience working with established portals where improvements must coexist with existing technology and design constraints.

Ability to work independently and deliver measurable improvements within a defined project timeline.

Expected Deliverables

UX assessment report identifying key issues and prioritized improvement opportunities.

Current-state user journey maps and recommended future-state workflows.

Wireframes for agreed-upon priority workflows.

High-fidelity UI designs and interactive Figma prototypes.

Reusable UI components and design specifications, as needed.

Usability testing findings and design iterations.

Developer handoff documentation and recommended UX success metrics.
