Associate / Attorney - Supreme Court and Appellate

Watts & Associates is working discreetly with a highly regarded Am Law ranked global firm with recognized appellate and IP strength seeking a mid level Supreme Court and Appellate Associate focused on Patent Appeals and IP to join its Washington, DC office.

This role offers direct access to sophisticated appellate matters, including high stakes patent and IP appeals before federal courts, supported by a deep national and international platform. You will work closely with seasoned appellate partners, gain meaningful responsibility for strategy and briefing, and build a long term profile as a go to patent appeals specialist.

The Role

Draft appellate briefs and substantive motions in complex patent and other IP appeals

Support and ultimately argue appeals before federal courts of appeals and state appellate courts

Conduct intensive legal research and analysis on intricate technical and legal issues

Collaborate with trial teams and clients to refine issues and appellate strategy

Work closely with senior appellate partners, taking substantive ownership of key workstreams

Ideal Candidate Profile

The firm is seeking a mid level Supreme Court and Appellate Associate focused on Patent Appeals and IP with:

5 to 7 years of appellate litigation experience focused on patent and IP appeals

Demonstrated experience drafting appellate briefs and substantive motions in patent or IP matters

Admission to at least 1 state bar, with Federal Circuit admission strongly preferred

J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

Prior clerkship experience, ideally with the Federal Circuit or a patent focused district court

Compensation & Benefits

$365,000 to $420,000 base salary, depending on experience
