Position Title: Assistant Scientist (PCR Operations)

Employment Type: Short-Term Contract

Location: On-site (Laboratory)

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Assistant Scientist for a short-term contract to execute bench-scale molecular biology experiments, with a primary focus on PCR assay execution, sample preparation, and laboratory maintenance. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with nucleic acid extraction and standard or quantitative PCR, capable of delivering reliable data in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

Experimental Execution: Perform routine and high-throughput PCR assays (e.g., qPCR, RT-PCR, standard end-point PCR) following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Sample Processing & Preparation: Extract, isolate, and quantify DNA/RNA from various biological matrices using manual and automated methods.

Reagent & Assay Setup: Prepare Master Mixes, reaction plates, primers/probes, and standard curves with high precision to minimize cross-contamination.

Data Analysis & Recording: Analyze run data (e.g., $C_t$ values, melt curves, agarose gel electrophoresis), document results promptly in Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN), and flag anomalies to senior leadership.

Laboratory Support & Maintenance: Maintain organized inventory of reagents and consumables, calibrate/maintain thermocyclers and liquid handling equipment, and ensure adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: B.S. or M.S. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline.

Experience: 1–3 years of hands-on laboratory experience running PCR/qPCR workflows (industry experience preferred).

Core Technical Skills:

Proficient in aseptic technique, pipetting precision, and nucleic acid handling.

Familiarity with PCR instrument software (e.g., QuantStudio, Bio-Rad CFX) and data interpretation.

Solid understanding of standard laboratory safety and biosafety protocols.

Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently under tight contract timelines.
