Senior Full Stack Engineer

Our client is growing its technology organization as it continues to develop a scalable platform powering financial services, payments, and digital experiences. The engineering team builds and operates the backend systems, cloud infrastructure, data capabilities, and internal platforms that support secure, reliable, and high-volume business operations.

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of high-impact technical initiatives and play a key role in the evolution of the company's engineering architecture. While the position is heavily focused on backend development with Python, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working across AWS, data systems, external integrations, and modern frontend technologies.

This is a highly hands-on role suited to an engineer who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving open-ended technical challenges, and can independently drive projects from concept through production. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and business teams while helping establish the architecture, standards, and engineering practices needed to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Own the design, development, and evolution of backend services, APIs, and platform capabilities supporting financial products and transaction-based workflows.

Develop high-quality, production-ready software primarily using Python, with Django experience strongly preferred.

Architect and operate scalable cloud environments and services within AWS.

Drive major technical projects from discovery and requirements gathering through architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.

Build and maintain integrations with banks, payment processors, vendors, and other third-party systems.

Design robust data models and service architectures that can accommodate growing transaction volumes and changing business requirements.

Work collaboratively with frontend engineers and contribute to React and TypeScript applications when appropriate.

Continuously improve application performance, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Strengthen engineering capabilities around automated testing, observability, logging, monitoring, and deployment automation.

Participate in architecture reviews, technical planning, code reviews, incident response, and production troubleshooting.

Establish reusable engineering patterns, technical standards, and development practices across the organization.

Evaluate technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions that balance speed of delivery with long-term scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Act as a technical mentor and trusted resource for engineers across the team, helping promote strong engineering practices and consistent technical execution.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience building, deploying, and supporting production applications.

Advanced Python development experience with a strong background in backend engineering; Django experience is highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of distributed systems, API architecture, service-oriented design, and data modeling.

Hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL and AWS.

Working knowledge of React and TypeScript with the ability to contribute across the broader application stack.

Experience architecting, deploying, and operating highly available distributed systems in the cloud.

Demonstrated ability to independently lead large or complex technical initiatives from initial architecture and design through production delivery.

Strong understanding of application scalability, performance optimization, reliability engineering, automated testing, observability, and software architecture.

Comfortable operating in a rapidly changing environment where priorities shift and engineers are expected to exercise significant ownership and sound judgment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Compensation

Base Salary: $260,000 – $298,000
