Job Title: Procurement Director

Location: Cincinnati or Columbus

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Vice President of Internal Operations

Job Summary

The Procurement Director is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies that support large-scale mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and process systems. This role oversees sourcing, purchasing, vendor management, contract negotiations, and material logistics to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supply Chain Management

Develop and manage procurement plans aligned with project schedules and budgets.

Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors for mechanical materials and equipment.

Help implement national programs and support them through TriplePoint.

Oversee purchasing of major equipment and materials, including:

HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, AHUs, VRFs)

Piping systems (carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, specialty alloys)

Valves, fittings, insulation, controls, and prefabrication materials

Manage long-lead items and coordinate early procurement strategies to mitigate schedule risks.

Ensure timely delivery of materials to job sites and fabrication facilities.

Vendor & Contract Management

Establish and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and manufacturers.

Negotiate pricing, terms, warranties, and delivery schedules to maximize value and reduce risk.

Administer supplier contracts and purchase agreements, ensuring compliance with project and company requirements.

Evaluate vendor performance and implement corrective actions as needed.

Cost Control & Budgeting

Collaborate with estimating, project management, and finance teams to align procurement with project budgets.

Monitor material costs, market trends, and supply chain conditions.

Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing, bulk purchasing, and alternative materials.

Track and report procurement savings, variances, and exposure.

Collaboration & Project Support

Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, Fabrication Shops, and BIM/VDC teams.

Support prefabrication and modular construction initiatives.

Participate in project kickoff meetings and schedule reviews.

Assist in resolving material shortages, substitutions, and change orders.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure procurement activities comply with contract requirements, safety standards, quality programs, and company policies.

Support risk mitigation related to supplier reliability, material availability, and escalation clauses.

Maintain accurate procurement documentation, logs, and reporting systems.

Support audits and contractual reviews as required.

Required Qualifications

7-10+ years of procurement or supply chain experience within a large mechanical, HVAC, or MEP contracting environment.

Strong knowledge of mechanical construction materials, equipment, and installation methods.

Proven experience negotiating large-scale purchase agreements and supplier contracts.

Experience managing procurement for projects valued at $10M+.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience with design-build, design-assist, and EPC project delivery methods.

Familiarity with prefabrication and modular construction processes.

Knowledge of ERP and procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Viewpoint, Procore, CMiC).

Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, or PMP.
