Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the services and APIs that power our platform.

We also practice AI-assisted software development. Our engineers work alongside tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot throughout the development lifecycle. We’re looking for an engineer who can use these tools effectively while applying strong technical judgment, critical thinking, and engineering discipline to everything they produce.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Design and evolve RESTful APIs, with careful attention to API contracts, versioning, reliability, security, and developer experience.

• Use AI coding assistants as part of your development workflow for design exploration, implementation, debugging, code review, and documentation.

• Evaluate AI-generated code critically and ensure solutions meet production-quality engineering standards.

• Design database schemas and write efficient queries across relational and NoSQL data stores, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, or similar technologies.

• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code using testing frameworks such as Jest or Vitest.

• Collaborate with frontend, product, and infrastructure teams to deliver features from concept through production.

• Deploy, monitor, and operate backend services in a cloud environment, with appropriate logging, metrics, monitoring, and alerting.

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help raise the overall quality of the engineering team.

• Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the evolution of our backend systems.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.

• Strong proficiency with Node.js and its ecosystem, including the event loop, asynchronous programming patterns, and streams.

• Strong working knowledge of TypeScript.

• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs.

• Experience working with at least one NoSQL database or data store, such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Cosmos DB, or similar.

• Production experience working in at least one major cloud environment: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Experience with automated testing using frameworks such as Jest or Vitest.

• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and the fundamentals of deploying and operating production services.

• Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools as a meaningful part of your engineering workflow.

• Strong ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code, identify potential issues, and apply sound engineering judgment to the final implementation.
