Description
Purpose
Under general direction, the Library Manager oversees the daily operation of a library and coordinates services with the other libraries in the Worthington Libraries system.
Essential Position Functions
Oversees the daily operation of a library location
Supervisory duties
Works closely with managers and librarians to coordinate circulation, programming and collection development functions
Coordinates with library managers at all library locations to implement services and plan programs
Participates in the development and administration of the annual budget for a library
Ensures ongoing collection maintenance of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the community
Participates in long range planning
Evaluates building and equipment maintenance and repair needs and works with Facilities staff to address them
Ensures effective exchange of communication among departments and between libraries
Performs duties of Circulation Manager and Lead Librarian, as needed Requirements
Education, Training, and/or Experience
Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school
A minimum of two (2) years of professional library experience in positions with progressive levels of responsibility
A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
Proficient in the use of the Integrated Library System (ILS)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records
Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations and library policies
Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
Ability to arrange items in alphanumeric and/or subject order
Ability to address and resolve patron conflicts equitably
Knowledge of traditional and electronic resources including web sites, databases and on-line searching skills
Knowledge of budget development and administration
Knowledge of state and federal employment laws
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record
Physical Demands
Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment, daily
Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds, daily
Ability to push book trucks with up to 150 pounds of materials on them, daily
Ability to stand for extended periods, daily
Travel by automobile is required frequently
Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, climbing and squatting, daily Working Conditions
Majority of work performed in general office/library environment
Requires availability for extended hours as needed
Requires evenings and/or weekends
Requires periodic participation and attendance at events and training
