Job Description
Accounting Manager – Hands-On / QuickBooks
RE/MAX Realty Group North Potomac, MD
Take ownership of the accounting function for an established 40-year real estate company. We need an experienced, hands-on accountant who can bring order, accuracy and timely reporting to a complex small-business accounting environment.
RE/MAX Realty Group, an established multi-office real estate brokerage serving the Maryland/DC/Virginia region, is seeking an experienced Accounting & Operations Specialist to take day-to-day ownership of the company's accounting and financial operations.
This is a hands-on, in-office position for someone who knows how to keep a set of books accurate and current, understands what the numbers mean, and is comfortable identifying and resolving discrepancies rather than simply processing transactions.
The right candidate will be highly organized, dependable and comfortable working independently while serving as a resource to company leadership, affiliated real estate professionals and staff.
What You'll Do
Independently manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activity in QuickBooks
Manage accounts receivable, including monthly billing, collections and account follow-up
Manage accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, recurring obligations and payment scheduling
Process and track commission-related payments in coordination with internal transaction and commission support staff
Reconcile bank, credit-card and other balance-sheet accounts
Maintain the general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies
Perform month-end closing procedures, including necessary journal entries and account reconciliations
Prepare monthly Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets and other financial reports for company leadership
Assist leadership with financial analysis, cash-flow information and special reporting needs
Coordinate financial activity involving related business entities and service partners
Respond professionally to accounting and payment questions from affiliated professionals, vendors and staff
Assist with other accounting and operational projects as needed
What We're Looking For
At least 3–5 years of hands-on bookkeeping, accounting or closely related financial operations experience
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online is required
Demonstrated experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and general-ledger accounting
Experience performing month-end close and preparing financial statements
Ability to independently investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate books
Strong Excel skills
Excellent attention to detail and comfort working with numbers, deadlines and confidential information
Ability to manage recurring responsibilities independently and follow issues through to resolution
Clear, professional communication skills
Comfortable working in a busy office and interacting with a wide variety of personalities
Experience in real estate brokerage, property management, mortgage, title, construction or another transaction-intensive business is especially helpful but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
$60,000–$70,000 annually, depending on experience
Health, Dental and Vision insurance available
401(k) with employer contribution
Paid time off
Monday through Friday schedule
In-office position
Established local company with a long operating history
We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously been responsible for a company's books from day-to-day transaction processing through month-end close and financial reporting. Applicants without meaningful hands-on QuickBooks experience will not be considered.
