Job Summary

The Reading Specialist is responsible for providing specialized, evidence-based reading instruction and intervention to students who experience difficulties with reading, including students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. The Reading Specialist will assess students’ individual reading needs, develop and implement targeted intervention plans, and provide individualized or small-group instruction designed to strengthen foundational literacy skills and promote reading achievement.

The Reading Specialist will use structured literacy approaches and evidence-based instructional strategies to address areas such as phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, and written language. Instruction should be responsive to individual student needs and may take place within the general education classroom (pushing in) or with individual students or small groups in a separate workspace (pulling out), as prescribed by Wraparound Experts and the principal of the school.

The Reading Specialist will collaborate with classroom teachers, school administrators, parents/guardians, and other professionals to support student progress and ensure consistency in intervention strategies. The specialist will monitor and document student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection and adjust instruction as needed.
