Wareham Public Schools seeks a collaborative and highly organized Special Education Program Administrator to lead the district’s out-of-district placement work and provide administrative and instructional leadership for designated special education programs, including programs at Wareham Elementary School.
The administrator will work closely with students, families, school teams, building leaders, and outside programs to ensure that students with disabilities receive appropriate services and that the district meets its special education responsibilities.
This position calls for someone who can manage complex cases and timelines while building trusting relationships and supporting strong in-district programming.
Key Responsibilities Out-of-district coordination Coordinate referrals, searches, placements, transitions, and ongoing case management for students in out-of-district programs.
Serve as a primary point of contact for families, district teams, receiving programs, and other agencies involved in assigned placements.
Coordinate required Team meetings, documentation, progress monitoring, and visits to out-of-district programs.
Monitor student needs and progress, and work with teams to plan appropriate transitions or changes in programming.
Support the district’s response to complex placement matters, including those involving court orders, homelessness, complaints, mediation, or Bureau of Special Education Appeals proceedings, in collaboration with the Director of Student Services and district counsel as appropriate.
Maintain accurate records and support required reporting and reimbursement documentation, including Circuit Breaker and Extraordinary Relief submissions.
Program leadership and school support Provide administrative support and special education expertise to Wareham Elementary School and other assigned district programs.
Collaborate with building administrators and Team Chairs to address student needs, strengthen programming, and identify students who may need additional support.
Monitor IEP implementation, service delivery, regulatory timelines, and the effectiveness of assigned programs.
Support teams in developing appropriate services and placements that enable students to access the curriculum and learn in the least restrictive environment.
Supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned special education staff, including staff in substantially separate programs, as designated by the district.
Review student, program, staffing, and service data to identify needs and recommend improvements.
Build productive working relationships with families, educators, related service providers, out-of-district programs, and community partners.
Provide guidance and professional learning to staff on special education procedures, effective practices, and program implementation.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or Superintendent.
