Learn to use data with intent.\n \n LJ Performance is a high-performance training environment built on professional standards, real data, and athlete development.
We work with youth, collegiate, and professional athletes using force plates, timing gates, velocity-based training, and individualized programming designed to transfer to sport.\n \n Our experience at the professional and Olympic levels, including MLB and MLS, shapes our approach to preparation, coaching, and athlete development.\n \n We’re looking for a curious, reliable student who wants to understand the decisions behind great coaching—and develop the skills to contribute under supervision.\n \n The opportunity\n \n This internship combines observation, supervised practice, feedback, and applied learning.
You’ll learn how athlete assessment, programming, coaching, and monitoring fit together within the LJ Performance system.\n \n What you’ll learn and practice\n \n • Observe training sessions and progressively practice coaching cues, exercise instruction, and session preparation under supervision.\n • Learn consistent testing procedures using force plates, timing gates, and velocity-based training tools.\n • Assist with supervised data collection and discuss how results inform training decisions.\n • Review individualized programming and athlete progress with the coaching team.\n • Develop professional communication skills with athletes and families.\n • Complete a supervised case study or learning portfolio using approved, de-identified information.\n \n The environment\n \n Expect structure, accountability, attention to detail, and feedback you can apply.
Bring questions, take initiative within your training and supervision, and be willing to refine how you think and coach.\n \n The value is learning how to connect technology, evidence, and coaching to the athlete in front of you.\n \n Who should apply\n \n Students studying exercise science, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, or a related field.\n \n Relevant coursework, sport participation, research, or coaching experience is welcome.
You should be dependable, communicate clearly, and respond well to feedback.
Prior mastery of performance technology is not required.\n \n Schedule and duration\n \n Tuesday and Thursday availability is a priority.
Additional days are welcome and can be discussed.
Exact hours will be agreed around academic requirements before placement begins.\n \n Our intended development pathway is six to twelve months, organized by academic term.
Each placement’s duration and any extension will be tied to agreed learning objectives and university requirements.\n \n Compensation and academic credit\n \n This is an unpaid educational internship.
Academic credit requires advance approval from your university and is not guaranteed.
Learning objectives, supervision, and evaluation requirements will be agreed before placement.
