Epidemiology Investigator 3

Schedule: Full-time

What You'll Do: The Bureau of Infectious Diseases is seeking an Epidemiology Investigator 3 to initiate, design, and conduct epidemiologic surveillance, data/statistical research, field studies, and outbreak investigations pertaining to water-borne infectious diseases. This position will:

Serve as primary contact for Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health districts (LHDs) on water-borne diseases

Coordinate epidemiological database management and provide quality control for data management aspects of investigations (e.g., coordinate data collection; review confidential case reports for accuracy and completeness; contact reporting sources for missing information)

Submit or arrange for submission of specimens associated with cases/outbreaks to ODH Public Health Laboratory for confirmation and identification of discrete identifiers (e.g., species, serotype, or molecular characteristics)

As directed, provide cross-coverage by performing or assisting with performance of same duties relevant to other infectious diseases (e.g., facility/institution-based outbreaks, Ohio Class A diseases with bioterror potential [e.g., anthrax])

Conduct computerized epidemiological and statistical analysis using appropriate statistical software (e.g., REDCap; SAS; R)

Write and/or edit reports discussing and drawing conclusions from analysis of epidemiologic datasets, including graphical (e.g., EpiCurves, pie charts, geographical mapping, tables, timelines) presentations

Serve as trainer and technical advisor to LHD personnel in designing and conducting surveillance activities and investigating cases and outbreaks identified by surveillance

Assist supervisor with administrative duties (e.g., preparation of grant applications and progress reports, provides recommendations regarding expenditure of funds and use of personnel for disease prevention programs)

Unusual Working Conditions: May require travel; may be away from home & normal work site up to 30 days during emergencies; may be exposed to contagious & communicable diseases & toxic or hazardous chemicals.

Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine AND 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in use of statistical computer software packages AND 6 mos. exp. as epidemiology investigator with local or federal health agency AND must be able to provide own transportation

-Or 6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigator 2, 65762; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine

Courses in epidemiology

Experience working with statewide epidemiologic databases

Experience with case finding and active follow-up (e.g., case management) for an infectious disease or health condition

Experience in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R)

Experience interpreting and conducting a statistical analysis of health-related data

Experience participating in outbreak investigations

Experience as a lead worker
