JOB GOAL / PURPOSE

The position requires specialized teaching of music, drama and movement across grades EY-5 during the school day and coordinating with other teachers to promote and support Elementary School co-curricular ensembles.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES

Learning & Instruction

Designs and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate performing arts experiences that balance challenge, creativity, and joy.

Develops students’ skills in performance, creativity, collaboration, communication, movement, and artistic expression.

Uses a range of instructional approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with varied learning profiles.

Provides meaningful opportunities for students to create, rehearse, perform, reflect, and revise their work.

Uses formative assessment and student reflection to monitor growth and adjust instruction.

Leads after school activities in vocal and/or instrumental groups and contributes to events that showcase the program.

Supports the ES musical yearly in collaboration with the musical director.

Perform other duties as assigned by the ES Principal, Assistant Principal or Head of School, that ensure a caring and safe learning environment and the delivery of the curriculum

Student Agency & Voice

Creates opportunities for students to make authentic choices about repertoire, performance, roles, artistic expression, and presentation.

Builds student confidence and agency by creating psychologically safe spaces for students to take creative risks.

Incorporates student ideas, cultures, identities, and experiences into performing arts learning.

Supports students in developing their own artistic voice while learning to give and receive constructive feedback.

Collaboration & Community

Collaborates effectively with classroom teachers, specialists, learning support, and other colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.

Connects performing arts learning to the broader elementary curriculum and school learning principles.

Builds positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Contributes to a strong sense of belonging and community through performances, assemblies, showcases, and other shared experiences.

Inclusive & Culturally Responsive Practice

Selects repertoire and learning experiences that represent diverse cultures, perspectives, traditions, and artistic forms.

Adapts instruction, performance expectations, and environments to ensure all students can participate meaningfully.

Uses culturally responsive and inclusive practices when teaching performance traditions and artistic expression.

Creates an environment in which students feel safe, seen, heard, and valued.

Performance & Production

Plans and facilitates high-quality performances appropriate to students’ developmental levels and learning goals.

Teaches students the processes involved in rehearsal, performance, staging, presentation, and reflection.

Manages performances and productions effectively, including organization, communication, rehearsal schedules, equipment, and spaces in collaboration with the team.

Balances the quality of a final performance with the learning, growth, and wellbeing of students.

Professional Practice

Reflects on practice and actively seeks opportunities for professional learning and growth.

Uses evidence of student learning and engagement to improve performing arts instruction.

Contributes positively to the professional culture and collaborative work of the elementary school.

Demonstrates flexibility, creativity, initiative, and strong organizational skills.

Upholds school safeguarding, wellbeing, and professional expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum 3 years of full-time teaching experience (5 or more years preferred)

Minimum Bachelor’s degree and current teaching certification

Knowledge of operation of ES Performing Arts programs

Ability to work with different divisions and multi-age grouping arrangements

Good communication, public relations and interpersonal skills

Ability to interpret and follow departmental policies and procedures

Knowledge of Orff and Kodaly methodology is an advantage

Competent piano skills preferable but not essential

Vocal teaching/directing skills preferable but not essential

A passion to support language learners by implementing research-based practices into Performing Arts lessons
