Tool & Die Maker
We are looking for an experienced Tool & Die Maker Precision Machinist with a strong combination of traditional toolroom machining, CNC machining, and hands-on tooling experience. The ideal candidate should be capable of both building precision tooling and troubleshooting tooling-related problems in a production environment.
Core Experience: The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with: manual lathes and mills, surface grinders, CNC lathes and machining centers, preferably Haas CNC programming, setup, and operation a-axis machining, mill-turn equipment and/or multi-axis machining, precision inspection and measurement equipment, reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, working to tight dimensional and geometric tolerances, understanding and applying GD&T.
Tool & Die Experience: Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in: tool and die manufacturing, repair, and maintenance, building precision punches, dies, die components, fixtures, and related production tooling, fitting, assembling, and proving out tooling, working with hardened tool steels and other materials commonly used in production tooling, precision grinding and machining of close-tolerance components, diagnosing worn, damaged, or improperly functioning tooling, modifying existing tooling to correct dimensional or production issues.
Press & Forming Experience: Ideally, the candidate will have experience working with press equipment and forming dies, particularly in a manufacturing environment. Experience with any of the following would be highly valuable: hydraulic or mechanical presses, draw dies/deep-draw tooling, forming, restrike, trimming, piercing, or similar die operations, punch and die clearances, tooling alignment and setup, diagnosing dimensional, forming, or quality problems caused by tooling, supporting production during tooling-related downtime or quality issues.
Troubleshooting & Production Support: This position requires someone who is more than a machinist. We are looking for an individual who can understand how the tooling interacts with the manufacturing process and determine the root cause of production problems. The candidate should be comfortable: troubleshooting tooling and production issues on the shop floor, determining whether dimensional or quality problems originate from the tooling, machine, setup, material, or process, repairing or modifying tooling to correct production problems, working directly with engineering, quality, maintenance, and production personnel, developing practical solutions when existing tooling is not performing as intended, taking a tooling component from a drawing or concept through machining, inspection, assembly, and production prove-out.
Ideal Candidate: The strongest candidate would be an experienced journeyman-level Tool & Die Maker or highly experienced precision machinist who combines old-school toolroom skills with modern CNC capabilities. We are specifically looking for someone who can program, set up, machine, grind, inspect, assemble, troubleshoot, and repair precision production tooling, rather than someone whose experience is limited to operating CNC equipment or running established programs. Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing and press/die operations would be a significant advantage.
