• Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum

• Location: Accrington area

• Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, hours to range between 7:15am - 6:00pm (40 hours)

NW Recruitment Services Ltd are currently recruiting on behalf of an established and successful transport and logistics business for an experienced Transport Planner to join their busy transport operation.

This is a hands-on planning role within a fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for helping to organise and coordinate the daily movement of vehicles and drivers, ensuring routes are planned efficiently and the operation runs as smoothly as possible.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience within transport planning, logistics or a similar operational environment, together with a good understanding of Driver Hours Regulations and transport compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and schedule daily transport routes across a busy fleet.

• Coordinate vehicle and driver movements to maximise efficiency.

• Ensure transport plans are practical, achievable and compliant with relevant regulations.

• Monitor the progress of vehicles and respond quickly to changes or unexpected issues.

• Liaise with drivers throughout the day to provide clear instructions and resolve operational queries.

• Identify and address potential delays or issues before they impact the wider operation.

• Ensure driver hours and working practices are managed in accordance with relevant legislation.

• Maintain accurate transport and planning records.

• Communicate effectively with colleagues and other relevant parties to ensure daily operations run smoothly.

• Assist with resolving transport-related problems as they arise.

• Work proactively to improve the efficiency of daily planning and vehicle utilisation.

• Support the wider transport team with general operational requirements when required.

About you

• Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, traffic planning or a similar role.

• A good understanding of Driver Hours Regulations and transport compliance.

• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.

• The ability to plan effectively and prioritise competing demands.

• A proactive approach to problem solving.

• The confidence to communicate clearly with drivers and colleagues.

• The ability to remain calm and organised in a busy, fast-moving environment.

• Good IT and administration skills.

• The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.

• A practical and common-sense approach to transport planning and day-to-day challenges.

What we offer

• £28,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
