Laundry Aide

Job Description

A Laundry Attendant in a nursing home is responsible for maintaining clean, sanitized linens and residents’ personal clothing to support a safe, comfortable, and hygienic environment. This role plays a key part in infection control and resident care.Key Responsibilities:

Sort, wash, dry, and fold residents’ clothing, bedding, towels, and facility linens

Follow strict infection control and sanitation guidelines to prevent the spread of illness

Handle soiled laundry safely, including items contaminated with bodily fluids

Operate and maintain commercial washers, dryers, and laundry equipment

Label and organize residents’ personal clothing to ensure proper return

Deliver clean laundry to resident rooms and nursing units in a timely manner

Inspect linens and clothing for stains, damage, or wear and rewash or report as needed

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry room

Monitor inventory of linens and report shortages or supply needs

Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE)Skills and Qualifications:

Knowledge of infection control practices and safety standards

Attention to detail, especially when handling residents’ personal items

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Strong organizational and time management skills

Physical ability to lift, carry, bend, and stand for long periods

Compassion and respect when working in a resident-centered environment

Ability to follow directions and work as part of a healthcare teamWork Environment:

Nursing home or long-term care facility

Exposure to heat, humidity, and biohazard materials

Requires use of PPE (gloves, gowns, etc.)

Frequent standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks
