ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an experienced Java Developer in Columbus, Ohio to support the modernization of a highly visible, business-critical 24x7 application used daily across the organization. This platform, in production for several years, is undergoing a major transformation to improve scalability, performance, and maintainability. This is an opportunity to work on a large-scale enterprise application while leveraging modern Java development practices, AWS cloud technologies, containerization, and AI-assisted development tools. The team supports both legacy enhancements and new application development initiatives, providing exposure to a variety of technologies and challenges. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java and AWS, experience with microservices architectures, relational databases, ORM frameworks, and a passion for technology and continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Design, develop, and maintain Java/J2EE enterprise applications and microservices
Support the modernization of a large-scale, business-critical application used across the organization
Build and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs
Develop event-driven solutions utilizing messaging platforms such as Kafka, SQS, or similar
Deploy and support applications in AWS cloud environments
Implement containerized solutions using Docker and Kubernetes
Contribute to CI/CD automation and cloud infrastructure initiatives
Utilize AI-assisted development tools as part of the software development process
Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions
Participate in continuous learning and adoption of new technologies and best practices WHAT YOU BRING
5+ years of Java development experience (8-10 years preferred)
Strong expertise with Java and AWS (the most critical skills for this role)
Experience building RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and microservices architectures
Knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL
Experience with Hibernate, JPA, or similar ORM frameworks
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code tools
Experience developing event-driven solutions using Kafka, SQS, or similar messaging platforms
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Genuine passion for technology, learning new tools, and continuous improvement
