We are looking to hire a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp. As a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp at MercyOne, Supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned by the physician or RN. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific. Serves the population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
General Requirements
Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner; includes checking patient identification and reviewing chart for basic requirements.
Performs or assists patients with personal hygiene such as, perineal care, oral hygiene, back rubs, making occupied/unoccupied carts, obtaining meals, sensory devices (i.e., hearing aids).
Assists patient with ambulation.
Assists patients in dressing/undressing.
Assists patient with elimination needs (i.e., bedpans, urinal, ambulation to bathroom).
Empties catheter bags and colostomy bags.
Measures and records temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure, measures and records height and weight.
Answers patient call lights and responds appropriately.
Performs special procedures including positioning and maintaining patient in correct and safe alignment.
Collects and labels urine specimens.
Performs urine Hcgs.
Measures and applies PAS stockings.
Performs order entry in computer.
Applies elbow protectors and anti-embolism stockings.
Performs pre-op shave prep as needed.
Assists with room preparation for anticipated admissions.
Communicates changes/information regarding patient's physical/mental condition to RN.
Maintains patient care and unit supplies.
Calculates and records intake and output (excluding IVs).
Sets up and assists with simple wound dressing changes.
Stamps patient records and obtains paperwork and records.
Transports patient belongings.
Performs bedside blood glucose testing.
Sets up equipment and supplies for sterile/non sterile procedures, including sterile bladder irrigation.
Sets up nasal cannula O2 delivery system; changes humidification bottle.
Delivers specimens to Lab; obtains blood from Blood Bank.
Performs phlebotomy following prescribed policy and procedure.
Performs 12-lead EKG or rhythm strip.
Performs post-mortem care, as needed.
Schedule: PRN; hours may vary.
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in medical setting preferred.
Ability to read, write and speak English language.
Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
