Senior Project Accountant - Columbus, Ohio

Role Overview

We are partnered with a well established specialty contractor in north Columbus to appoint a Senior Project Accountant to act as a key financial partner to their project teams. Reporting to the Controller, you'll take ownership of project financial lifecycles, drive WIP reporting, and provide strategic cost control across complex commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

Partner directly with Project Managers and Operations leaders to review job performance, monitor profitability, and identify cost variances.

Manage end-to-end owner billing processes, including AIA formats (G702/G703), progress billings, GMP contract administration, and lien waiver tracking.

Lead project forecasting efforts, including cost-to-complete estimates, revenue projections, cash flow analysis, and end-of-job profitability models.

Oversee trade-specific job costing, committed costs, subcontract change orders, and monthly WIP reporting.

Administer subcontract documentation, review trade vendor billings, and support retainage management.

Provide leadership and day-to-day mentoring to junior Project Accountants and Project Administrators.

Qualifications & Experience

5+ years of project accounting experience within commercial construction or specialty contracting.

Deep familiarity with job costing, AIA billing, and POC/WIP accounting, and the ability to influence and develop field and junior accounting team members.

Advanced Excel skills required, plus hands on experience with construction ERP systems.

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management preferred, with additional CPA or similar certifications highly desirable but not essential.

Package & Compensation

$80,000 - $100,000 base salary depending on experience.
