Senior Design Engineer

Responsibilities

Lead project teams in the product development process

Design/engineer components & assemblies in 3D Solidworks CAD system to meet all functional & structural product requirements including manufacturability & assembly

Perform tolerance stacks and structural analysis as required to ensure designs meet requirements (Experience or knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) preferred)

Prepare component & assembly detail drawings for release to supply base for fabrication

Develop parts lists/BOMs

Support prototype and production builds with hands-on support

Provide technical support to engineering, validation, purchasing, quality and production departments

Lead activities to perform root cause analysis of product and part issues

Support company technical initiatives (e.g. – ISO compliance)

Mentor less experienced engineers on design techniques and best practices

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.

Self-starter with 5-10 years of design engineering/product development experience in a solid-modeling-based CAD system (SolidWorks preferred)

Experience leading a project or team in a product development environment

Practical knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimension & tolerance), DFM (design for

manufacturability) and DFA (design for assembly)

Mechanically inclined, technically savvy and possess the ability to multi-task in a demanding, timeline-driven position

Experience and/or knowledge of the following manufacturing processes (in order of preference):

Cast aluminum part design

Injection molding and/or die casting

Sheet metal fabrication and/or stamping

Machining & turning

Painting & plating of metal & plastic components

Knowledge and use of SolidWorks surfacing preferred

Experience or knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) preferred

Experience with SolidWorks large and advanced assemblies preferred

Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.) on a Windows based OS

Strong written and oral communication skills

Strong mechanical/hand tool skills desired.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25lbs. and occasionally up to 50lbs.
