MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

The Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Medical Technologist to perform complex diagnostic testing within Laboratory Services. This role supports patient care, research, and medical education by delivering accurate, timely results in areas such as hematology, chemistry, and microbiology. The technologist will operate and maintain advanced analyzers, ensure regulatory compliance, and participate in quality initiatives. Responsibilities

Perform routine and complex diagnostic tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and related areas

Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and analyzers

Ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, processing, and storage

Review, validate, and report test results in the LIS in a timely manner

Adhere to CLIA, CAP, and MUSC quality control, safety, and regulatory standards

Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, and researchers to support patient care and studies

Participate in process improvement, method validation, and new test implementation

Contribute to training of students and new staff within Laboratory Services

Required Skills

Clinical laboratory testing (hematology, chemistry, immunology, microbiology, transfusion services)

Operation and maintenance of automated lab analyzers

Quality control and quality assurance procedures

Specimen processing and handling

Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) proficiency

Regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission)

Result interpretation and troubleshooting

Infection control and biosafety practices

Data analysis and documentation accuracy

Effective communication with clinicians and care teams
