Job Description

Position Overview

The Test & Validation Engineer is responsible for establishing and driving the verification and validation (V&V) capability across Teledyne Gavia’s AUV product portfolio.

This role owns the definition, planning, and execution oversight of system-level testing to ensure that all products meet specified requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.

The position acts as the bridge between Systems Engineering, Software QA, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure that designs are testable, verification is structured and traceable, and validation is performed effectively across laboratory, integration, and field environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Verification & Validation (V&V)

·Define and implement a company-wide V&V framework aligned with engineering processes and ISO requirements

·Own the distinction and execution of:

o Verification (meeting specifications)

o Validation (meeting operational/customer needs)

·Establish best practices for:

oTest planning

oTest case definition

oRequirement traceability (requirements test cases results)

Test Planning & Program Support

·Develop test strategies and plans for all major development programs (e.g. AUV platforms, modules, system upgrades)

·Ensure that:

oAcceptance criteria are clearly defined

oVerification activities are planned early in the development lifecycle

·Actively support program teams by:

oReviewing test plans

oTracking test progress and readiness

oIdentifying risks and gaps in coverage

System-Level Testing & Integration

·Lead and coordinate testing across all stages:

oBench and module-level testing

oIntegration testing

oEnvironmental and qualification testing (e.g., pressure, EMI, endurance)

oFactory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and field validation (e.g., sea trials)

·Ensure test environments are controlled and documented, including tools, configurations, and calibration

·Oversee execution where needed, but focus primarily on structure, quality, and completeness

Design for Testability

·Work closely with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams to:

oEnsure designs are testable from early phases

oIdentify required instrumentation, interfaces, and diagnostic capabilities

·Participate in design reviews with a focus on:

oTest coverage

oObservability and controllability

oRisk reduction

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

·Ensure all verification activities comply with:

oInternal engineering processes

oApplicable standards (e.g., CE, environmental testing, military standards as applicable)

·Ensure test documentation is:

oComplete

oRepeatable

oAuditable

·Support:

oNonconformance tracking

oRoot cause analysis

oCorrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

Cross-Functional Collaboration

·Work closely with:

oSystems Engineering (requirements & architecture)

oSoftware QA (test automation and regression)

oManufacturing & Field Service (test execution & feedback loops)

·Act as a central point of coordination for all engineering testing activities

Education and Experience

·Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Software, or related discipline)

·Experience in:

oTest engineering, verification & validation, or systems engineering

·Experience with:

oComplex, multidisciplinary systems (e.g., robotics, marine, aerospace, defense)

oStructured V&V processes and frameworks

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·Strong understanding of:

oSystems engineering principles

oVerification and validation methodologies

oIntegration and system-level testing

·Experience with:

oEnvironmental and qualification testing (pressure, thermal, vibration, EMI)

oRequirements management and traceability

·Ability to:

oStructure ambiguous problems into clear testing approaches

oInfluence teams without direct authority

oDrive process improvements across disciplines

·Excellent communication, organization, and technical documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

·Experience in AUV, subsea, or marine systems

·Familiarity with:

oCE marking, ISO 9001, and/or military standards (e.g., MIL-STD testing)

·Experience with:

oTest automation frameworks

oHardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system simulation environments

Work Environment

·Professional office and engineering lab environment

·Regular interaction with:

oTest facilities (pool, pressure chamber, field testing environments)

·Occasional travel for testing, trials, or customer validation activities

Physical / Mental Demands

·Ability to work in lab and field environments, including hands-on testing

·Ability to travel and support offshore or field testing when required

·Combination of desk-based work and active participation in test activities
