Position Overview

We are seeking a certified Medical Instrument Technician (Echosonography) to support cardiovascular procedures at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. This role provides direct diagnostic imaging services to Veterans as part of a growing cardiology program, working on-site alongside VA clinical staff. Technicians work an 8-hour on-site shift schedule (0800–1630, Monday–Friday) with a rotating on-call requirement covering one weeknight per week and one weekend in four.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and position patients for echosonography procedures, explaining the procedure and ensuring comfort and safety throughout imaging.

Select appropriate imaging techniques; calibrate, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment to produce diagnostic-quality images.

Review and verify image quality against diagnostic standards; communicate findings with providers for further evaluation.

Maintain detailed, compliant patient records documenting procedures performed.

Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other clinical staff to interpret imaging results and support comprehensive patient care.

Complete required QA/QI documentation for all procedures, complications, and outcomes.

Follow all patient safety and infection control protocols; report incidents within 24 hours per VA reporting requirements.

Be physically present and ready at scheduled shift start times.

Qualifications & Experience

Current certification in echocardiographic imaging through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Registered as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) via CCI or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) via ARDMS.

Minimum one (1) year of experience performing echocardiographic imaging.

Full, unrestricted certification/licensure — no history of restriction, suspension, revocation, or denial.

Competency in vascular imaging desirable but not required.

Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred, not required).

Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

Ability to pass required VA background investigation, credentialing/privileging review, and health screenings (TB, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, influenza).

Compensation

Compensation is based on experience, certifications, and shift assignment:

Hourly Rate

On-site shift hours (0800–1630, M–F)

$73–$85/hour, depending on experience and certifications

Scheduled on-call coverage (weeknight/weekend rotation)

$26–$31/hour

This is an on-site Minneapolis, MN position; the assignment does not include a per diem or relocation/travel allowance.
