Position Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to join its team serving the Central Maine region. The Gastroenterology APP provides high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with acute and chronic gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary conditions. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, developing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, coordinating care, providing patient education, and collaborating with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.

Diagnose and manage common gastrointestinal conditions such as:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Peptic ulcer disease

Chronic liver disease

Viral hepatitis

Pancreatic disorders

Constipation and diarrhea

Gastrointestinal bleeding (as appropriate)

Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and pathology results.

Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

Prescribe medications and monitor therapeutic response in accordance with state regulations.

Provide pre- and post-procedure evaluation for endoscopic procedures.

Educate patients and families regarding disease management, medications, nutrition, and preventive care.

Coordinate referrals and collaborate with primary care providers, surgeons, oncology, radiology, nutrition, and other specialists.

Document clinical encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

May assist with inpatient consults, hospital rounding, or procedural support depending on practice needs.

Qualifications

Required

Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program

Current state licensure as an NP or PA

National board certification (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA, or equivalent)

DEA registration and prescriptive authority

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills

Knowledge of gastrointestinal diseases and current treatment guidelines

Excellent communication and patient education abilities

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment

Strong collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork skills

Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development

Preferred

1–3 years of experience in gastroenterology, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or primary care

Experience with EMR systems

Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $123,000 to $129,000. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
