Unit Overview
22 bed CVSD/Stepdown unit
Ratios: 1:4–6
Charting: Allscripts
Scrubs: Navy blue
Float: Travelers float first
Orientation: 12 hour unit orientation with preceptor
Patient Population
Bradycardia, A fib, SVT
CHF, CAD, NSTEMI, PVD
PE, CVA/TIA
Post op VATS, lobectomy, wedge resection
Chest tubes, tracheotomy (no vents)
TAVR
Post op day 1 CABG (after ICU day 0)
Clinical Requirements
2+ years recent Stepdown/PCU experience
Epicardial pacing & chest tube experience required
Drip titration: cardizem, amiodarone, procainamide, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin (rare)
Monitor techs handle strip interpretation (Nihon Koden monitors)
Support & Staffing
Charge nurse takes full patient assignment
Nursing supervisor 24/7
Nurse aides: 1:15
RT available 24/7 hospital wide
IV therapy team handles all IV sticks
Scheduling
Self scheduling via committee
Rotating: 2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights (if applicable)
Nights: 6:45–7:15
Weekends: EOW
Holidays: Included in rotation
Certifications Required
BLS, ACLS
Core Nursing Exam
Ishihara Color Vision Screening
Stepdown/PCU Exam
Driver’s license required at submission
Must meet 50 mile radius rule
Additional Notes
No vents, no continuous BiPAP
Cancellation: 2 shifts per 13 week contract
Only submit to one WVU facility at a time
