We are seeking a motivated and experienced Veterinary Technician to support our veterinary services team within a regulated research animal environment. This position provides clinical support across multiple species under veterinary direction, including animal health assessments, procedures, surgical support, medical documentation, and daily veterinary oversight.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform daily animal health observations, physical assessments, and clinical evaluations across multiple species

Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and medical procedures

Prepare for and support with surgical procedures, including anesthesia monitoring, intra-operative support, and post-operative care

Administer medications, treatments, and supportive care as directed

Collect diagnostic samples, including blood, urine, fecal, and other biological specimens

Maintain accurate medical records, treatment logs, surgical documentation, and regulatory records

Monitor recovery, behavior, appetite, and overall well-being and communicate funding promptly to veterinary staff and appropriate departments

Collaborate with husbandry, veterinary, research, and management teams

Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to veterinary technicians, animal care staff, and trainees

Assist in scheduling, workflow prioritization, inventory oversight, and departmental organization

Ensure compliance with institutional protocols, animal welfare regulations, and veterinary standards

Required Qualifications

Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Veterinary Technology

Available to work occasionally on weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins as needed

Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and function effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications

Current New York State Education Department veterinary technician license ( LVT ) or license-eligible in New York

Previous veterinary technician experience, including anesthesia, surgery, health assessments, emergency care, and clinical procedures

Experience working with multiple species

Physical Requirements

Lift, carry, push, or move up to 50 pounds

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods

Safely handle and restrain multiple animal species

This position is funded through the Research Foundation for the State University of New York. The Annual Salary range is $53,000 to $58,000, and there is also a generous benefit package.
