Position: Exhibit Department Manager Status: Full time, permanent Location: Ohio History Center, Columbus OH Salary: $68,640 - 79,040 per year Benefits: Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement pension, paid time off and holidays Summary: Oversees the development and implementation of exhibit and signage projects throughout the Ohio History Connection site network.
This individual oversees a collaborative exhibit development process and articulates a vision for the experiential and aesthetic direction of exhibits.
Manages the in-house exhibit team as well as cross-divisional project teams and contract support team.
This work includes managing a multiyear exhibit schedule and budgets for the site network (160k sq ft). Serves as the primary advocate for the visitor's experience in exhibits.
Essential Functions: Oversee all facets of the exhibit development process working with collections staff, curators, designers, preparators, education and program staff, audience research staff, and marketing and development staff.
As required by project need, assist in hiring or art directing contract photographers, illustrators or graphic designers.
Work directly with vendors to oversee production and installation of exhibit casework, environments, and graphic components.
Ability to think creatively and inspire and direct development team.
Communicate complex concepts, inspire team and develop unique and compressive methods to meet intended audience educational level.
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field (Exhibit or Interior Design/Museum Studies) PLUS seven to ten years relevant working experience Desired Skills & Experience: Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, evaluate situations and identify solutions quickly.
Experience managing projects and programs, including planning, setting timelines, and completing deliverables utilizing project management processes.
Ability to supervise staff with an eye towards coaching and development, goal setting, and metrics analysis.
Experience setting, tracking, and analyzing metrics with an eye toward continuous improvement and sustainability.
Ability to communicate with staff and the public, both orally and in writing, particularly the ability to work diplomatically and effectively with colleagues and the ability to build and maintain partnerships and relationships.
Excellent presentation skills.
Experience with creating and managing department budgets.
Manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, set goals, and develop systems for achieving those goals, juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, stay focused on deadlines, and handle complex projects efficiently as an individual contributor and for Department, and being accountable to the organization for said tasks.
Proficiency in various office software suites (Adobe Creative Cloud and AutoCAD or other 3-D software rendering programs) and virtual platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
