Light Equipment Operator

DPW – Water Division

AFSCME Local 1700 – Grade 7

Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Full Pay Range (07/01/2026): $22.6972 to $30.5073 per hour plus additional stipends for licenses

Position Overview:

General laboring work, requiring some skills such as pipe laying, installing water services, replacing valves and, in emergencies, installing water meters and reading water meters

Will be able to operate a compressor, jack hammer, water pump, repair leaks, dig trenches by hand, tap water mains, drive truck, repair or replace street valves

Assist in repairing equipment and cleaning of the garage and stockroom

Be on call for emergencies and will do all work as assigned or required by the Superintendent

Answers directly to the Water Superintendent. In the absence of the Water Superintendent, will answer directly to the Foreman; in the absence of both the Water Superintendent and the Foreman, will answer directly to the Lead Man

Qualifications:

Valid Massachusetts Driver's License

Education and Experience:

High school diploma, trade school education, or equivalent training and experience.
