Forward Deployed Engineer

Full-time Hybrid

Locations: San Francisco, CA Seattle, WA Los Angeles, CA

Salary: $180,000–$240,000

About the Role

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer with 1–7 years of experience to embed directly with U.S. military and government customers and own the technical success of command-and-control (C2) systems in live operational environments. You'll be equal parts software engineer and field operator, writing production code, debugging distributed systems under pressure, and deploying software in high-stakes environments.

What You'll Do

Deploy and integrate C2 software on-site with military operators across domestic and international locations (50–75% travel to coastal and water-adjacent sites)

Perform break-fix troubleshooting and rapid code development in the field by gathering requirements directly from operators and delivering same-day solutions

Work alongside drone operators during live missions, supporting autonomous systems operating in the air, on land, or on water

Bring field insights back to the engineering team to improve the product

Operate independently in ambiguous, resource-constrained environments, including software development, hardware integration, and field support as needed

Qualifications

1–7 years of experience in full-stack software engineering and/or Forward Deployed Engineering

Strong experience with Golang and React

Experience with Python, C/C++, and Java

Familiarity with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD

Strong system design and distributed systems architecture skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or another technical field

High degree of ownership and ability to thrive in ambiguous environments

Willingness to travel 50%+ domestically and internationally

Eligible to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance
