The Role
This role offers the opportunity to build and grow your career in governmental audit while working on engagements that support public sector organizations and communities. You’ll gain hands on experience in financial statement audits, regulatory compliance, and government accounting standards while collaborating with a supportive and experienced audit team.
What You'll Do
Lead teams of two to four associates, performing and overseeing audit engagements, and provide regular updates on audit engagement status to supervisors
Apply knowledge and understanding of governing principles of Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB); apply these principles to client transactions; document and communicate an understanding and application of these principles
Identify, analyze, and discuss alternative GASB accounting principles for the client, when necessary, with the engagement supervisor
Conduct financial statement audits for government clients, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information
Ensure that all engagements are complete and ready for supervisor review within the established time frame and budget for engagements in accordance with M & J’s quality control policies
Act as a change agent; set an example by accepting change and proactively supporting change (e.g. change in audit tools, different audit approach for the client, etc.)
Develop staff by serving as a mentor and delegating and training them to be successful in their careers
Provide constructive formal and informal feedback in a timely manner to all levels
Maintain continuing education requirements for Government Auditing Standards (GAS)
Perform additional duties as assigned

B.A./B.S. in Accounting
3+ years of public accounting experience
Understanding of US GAAS and US GAAP
Experience with public sector entities and related organizations preferred
Single audit and Uniform Guidance experience preferred
